Granny always told us tales,

of the flood in nineteen-forty,

how her home was washed away

on a tide of swirling water.

She scared us all so much

with the thoughts of all she lost,

gone in the blink of an eye

as the surge came rushing past.

So when I came to build my house,

I found a rock high enough,

to save me from the same disaster,

of a epic flood with rising water.

But life, being what it is,

I’ve probably built for flood,

and will instead get flattened,

by a rock fall from the cliffs above.
