I DIDN’T NEED

A MANSION

I didn’t need a mansion,

when all the world

was building theirs.

A smaller house

did me rightly,

fixed up bit by bit.

I didn’t need to have

the same, as everyone

around me.

Now, in days of rising costs,

and mortgages

that cost the earth

I’m glad I didn’t need,

a house with extra

added things.

I look around

and see the toll

those mansions

wrung from some,

and I realised that now,

I’m the lucky one.
