KEEPER OF THE KEYS

There is a door,

and at it stands

a man with keys

who keeps me in,

and will not

open up the door,

not matter how I plead.

It is a door

that separates

the big bad world

and me,

so in a way

I’m very glad

there stands a man with keys.

I can’t go out

into this world

where awful things

might happen,

because the man

who holds the keys

says ‘no, you cannot pass me’.

I know though somewhere

deep inside,

he isn’t really real,

it’s only that

I’m scared to leave,

and the only one

who holds the keys, is me.
