LITTLE BIRD

She found a little bird

whose wings were non-existent,

small and stunted

barely there,

it may never fly from her.

But she opens up the window

every day, and shows the bird

the wide blue sky,

and all the birds

that learned to fly.

She doesn't know if her little bird

wants to fly and can't,

or if it may yet glide away

if it only finds

the strength to try.

So she does the only thing she can

to help them both,

she shows the bird

where it could go

and waits with patient hope.
