Grasped to her chest

like precious metal,

she hugs her new shoes.

New leather smell

and tall thin heels,

worth every saved cent.

The rectangular box

holding promise,

like Christmas morning.

Inside, a girl’s tools

for long legs and tight bum,

worn with pride.

She’ll be two foot taller,

and a half-stone lighter,

in her brand new shoes.
