SUNNY SIDE UP

I’m trying hard, I really am,

to keep the sunny side up.

But these eggs are so fresh,

they keep sliding around on my plate.

I’m afraid they’ll slide right off,

onto the floor.

And that will be such a mess,

eggs and plate everywhere.

Stop, I tell my head,

that hasn’t happened yet,

you’re just imagining the things

that only might. Be positive.

Concentrate on what

is right before you now.

Which are eggs, the right side up,

delicious and still warm –

so eat them quick,

before they slide,

enjoy them while you can.
