THE IRISH MAMMY

The Irish Mammy

gathers round her

all her growing brood,

she dispenses

love, and good advice,

and discipline, and food.

From the babies

to the bigger ones,

she tends their every need,

with the wee ones at her feet,

and the smallest

on her knee.

A house of many

she must run

with military precision,

many clothes

are washed and ironed,

and many dinners given.

She tucks them all

in beds and bunks,

they may be short on space,

but each one fits,

inside her heart,

in their own special place.
