THIS IS THE GIRL I WAS
This is the girl I was,
before life,
before things
happened
and tears tripped,
before hearts broke,
and days fell,
into the long drop
of time.
Before lines came
from stressed days,
and grey came
from nowhere,
and before the future,
that used to stretch
forever,
tick-tocked
into the past.
This is the girl I was,
once upon a time,
but the world
moved on
and I must too.
This, now,
is the girl I am,
who carries scars
and memories
like a packed case,
in a full room.
This is the girl I like,
I think,
who came through,
and moved on,
and held high
a tired head,
and smiled
with a full heart,
at all the days past,
and all the new dawns.
