UNDER THE

CHERRY TREE

Under the cherry tree

sits a woman

of the woods

of the earth

of the hills.

She sits connected

to the ground beneath her,

and as she calls

the petals answer

and fall in slow motion

to her feet.

I envy her,

the cherry tree lady

on her soft spring days,

how she can talk to nature

and trees

and leaves.

While I, house dweller,

have forgotten how.
