DANCING WITH TIME

We all dance with time.

In the beginning it's a slow beat

and every day seems like a month,

the tick tock agonisingly slow.

Time moves on a bit, gaining momentum

and swinging faster as it goes,

we follow along with the rhythm

and move our feet a little quicker.

As the years roll on we don't notice time,

only its absence, not enough hours in the day.

Busy busy and everything flying by,

like watching the world from a train.

One day we wake up and we are still trying

to dance, but our feet are getting tired.

Time has now learned the steps from the best

and can two-step rings around us.

Stop, we say, let me savour, and time laughs,

a mischievous master, no, I'm having fun.

I'm not ready to leave the floor,

you should have lingered younger.

So tell the next ones coming

that time is fluid, not static,

it moves at different speeds

depending on when we are dancing.

Tell them to savour it sooner

to appreciate the slow tick in the beginning

and enjoy the ride in the middle,

but just like us, they probably won't listen.
