What's up hen,

are you happy there

on your soft cushion

carried from place to place

while your adoring sisters

wait their turn?

Are you comfortable,

in your role as queen

carted around by willing

acolytes like me,

who see you as special

and worthy of

adoration?

Or are you full

of sadness and woe

from being crippled

by the well meaning

act of being carried,

your little legs

withered and thin

and almost lost.

I don't know which

survives the better,

the hen that has to

hardscrabble peck

her way to victory,

or the soft and

pampered hen

you have become.
