STARTING OUT

There we were,

just starting out,

not knowing the mountains

we'd have to climb.

We couldn't have guessed

the lengths we'd have to go to,

the obstacles to overcome,

the thunder storms we'd have to brave.

But here we are, now,

having walked the miles

and survived the weather,

having scaled the hills

that we'd never have

considered climbing, if we'd known.

Maybe it's no harm

we never get the gift of foresight,

when we're starting out.
