AUNTY MARY BAKED A CAKE

When Aunty Mary baked a cake

she couldn't find her glasses,

and when she read the recipe

she didn't see molasses,

so she left that out.

She saw an S for sugar

but guessed at salt instead,

she left out three large eggs

because she hadn't even read

that line, at all.

She put the mixture in a tin

and stuck it in the oven,

and then invited us for tea,

and bless her, she was buzzing

to have everybody round.

We all came in, she poured the tea

and passed around the cake,

we had to eat up every crumb

so she'd keep feeling great,

sure what could you do.

She never knew the awful truth

because that day she couldn't eat,

along with all her spectacles

she'd mislaid her false teeth.

Poor auld Aunty Mary.
