LIGHTBULB MOMENT

I met a little girl once

with a light bulb in her hand

and her wee face glowing

with the joy of putting

two and two together

all by herself.

She said I had a problem

and I couldn't work it out

so I came at it from this side

and then that side

and poked and prodded it

like a sore tooth

and I almost gave up

and threw it there.

But then suddenly, eureka

I saw the answer

and my mind lit up

with the information

and I was so proud.

I could have asked someone

or Googled it

but instead I used my brain

until the pieces

of the puzzle fell into place

and it gave me such a buzz

to know I did that, myself.

To see the pride

she earned for herself

made me realise

that the easy answer

isn't half as good

as the one we work

a little harder for.

So when I hit a problem

I won't think about the answer

I'll ponder more

on how to figure it myself,

for the look of pride

I saw on her wee face.
