TROPHY

She was feeling unappreciated

by everyone around her,

she felt that all her efforts

were in vain.

She felt that all the things

she did for others,

were not returned at all,

never mind in spades.

But instead of sitting down

and crying in a corner,

she took herself

off up the town instead.

She went into the trophy shop

and bought herself a cup,

she brought it home

and put it on a shelf.

Now when anyone should ask

her what is up,

she polishes her trophy

and keeps it to herself.

She realised eventually

that nothing that we do

will get ourselves rewarded

as we feel we're due.

We're better off to praise ourselves

and give ourselves a trophy

and then the things

we do for others

we'll learn to only do

if we really can be bothered,

and for no reward

but helping those we love.
