THE UPSIDE DOWN HOUSE

Everything was upside down

her house

her home

her head

her heart

until the day she realised

that she'd been standing

on her head

so it only looked

like up was down

and down was up

from the point at which she stood.

Standing on your head

for anyone but you

only makes crazy

and sad and tired and blue.

So when she saw the light

she took a step

right back

and saw from

a new perspective

that her little house

was right side up

and always was

but she'd been looking

from the bottom down

and not been looking up.

Now she lives to please herself

with her feet upon the ground

her head the right way up

and her house the right way round.
